The following 32 research projects have been completed so far:

- Management Development Needs in Development Banking (1981): This study sought to examine the various facets of training and development of managers and professionals in the national and state level financial and development institutions in India. The conclusions and findings of this study were used in a report of a committee of the Industrial Development Bank of India, who also provided support for this research project.

- Assessment of Training
Needs (1981): An analysis of training needs for
middle-level management staff of MMTC was sponsored
by the Corporation itself.
- Performance Appraisal
in India (1984): Based on the responses of 60
large and medium-size business organizations, this
study attempted to review performance appraisal practices
in Indian organizations and to develop theory and
guidelines for more satisfactory appraisal system.
Financial support for this study was provided by GNFC.
The research report was published as a book.
- Development of Consulting
Skills (1984): The study sought to assess the
skill development needs for the professional staff
of the Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organization
(TCOs) with a view to enhance their capability to
satisfy the needs and expectations of their clients.
The study had a sample of 100 professionals in eight
TCOs. The Industrial Development Bank of India provided
financial and other support for this study
- Victims of Crime: A Socio-Legal
Study (1984): In this study, Prof. S. Venugopal Rao
examines various social and legal facets affecting the victims
of crime. Research grants for this was provided by the Indian
Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).

- Second Survey of Research in Management (1984):
Eight survey reports of research in management, covering
the decade of seventies, were sponsored by the Indian Council
of Social Science Research. Dr. B.L. Maheshwari was the
Chairman of the Advisory Committee and the Editor of the
Survey Reports and the Centre provided secretarial assistance
for this project.
- Practice of Quality Circles
in India (1985): This study sought to assess the extent
of practice of Quality Circles in Indian organizations and
to identify important benefits derived and problems to be
resolved for making quality circles more effective. The
study was based on the experiences of 25 companies. The
research findings were used as an input in the conference
on ‘Quality Circles: The Indian Experience’,
held in December 1985. The research report and the conference
proceedings were published as a book.
- Women in Management
(1986): This study sought to explore the role and status
of women in Indian management. Based on personal interviews
with 20 women managers and selected case studies, it attempts
to identify important issues and concerns.
- Promoting Entrepreneurs
through Seed Capital Assistance – A Study of Andhra
Pradesh (1986): This study was designed to assess the
impact of the seed capital assistance scheme of IDBI in
promotion of entrepreneurs in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
Besides analysis of secondary data relating to 75 cases,
detailed case studies of ten entrepreneurs were developed.
The Industrial Development Bank of India provided financial
support for this study.
- Organization Change in
India (1986): This study sought to explore experiences
of Indian organizations with the process of organization
change and to identify strategies used, benefits derived
and problems encountered. Thirty eight large public and
private sector organizations responded to a questionnaire.
A paper based on the findings of this study was used in
the conference on ‘Organization Change: Experiences,
Issues and Strategies’, held in October, 1986.
- Employee Commitment, Satisfaction
and Perception (1987): This study sought to explore
various dimensions of employees’ attitudes in Blue
Star with particular emphasis on commitment to organization
goals, satisfaction with organization’s policies and
perceptions of various issues. The study covered about 2250
employees at various levels of hierarchy.
- Training Needs for SAIL
(1987): This study sought to identify training needs of
the corporate management cadre of SAIL, covering superintendents
to general managers. About 650 responses were analyzed.
Findings were used for formulation of training policy and
programmes of SAIL.
- Productivity Improvement
in Government (1985 & 1988): Based on the review
of relevant literature, a number of conceptual and methodological
issues were identified and action research in two circles
of the civil supplies department of a state government was
completed in 1985 and a pilot project in a government hospital
was completed in 1988.
- Management Trainee Scheme
(1988): Sponsored by SAIL, this study attempts to evaluate
the training process of the management trainees, with a
view to evolve more effective training programmes for them.
Findings of this research were utilized for improving the
training process.
- Building an Organization
for Managing Innovation (1989): Sponsored by SAIL, this
study seeks to understand the process involved in building
the Centre for Engineering & Technology as an Institution
promoting innovation.
- Criminal Justice Planning
and Development (1989): This study by Prof. S. Venugopal
Rao attempts an evaluation of the criminal justice system
in India, with indepth examination of three major institutions
of criminal justice administration, i.e. police, judiciary
and the correctional system. Financial support for this
study was provided by the Indian Council of Social Science
Research.
- Executive Stress (1990):
Using questionnaire and interview methods, the study seeks
to identify various facets of executive stress, including
source and symptoms of stress and coping mechanisms used
by different people. Responses of 500 executives from different
organizations form the basis of research.
- Development Programme
for Women in Management (1991): Based on responses from
430 women executives in 27 Indian organizations, this study
sought to assess the development needs of women in management,
in the context of their personal and job profiles and individual
perceptions of organizational realities. Research support
was provided by AMDISA, which also published the report.
- Organization Culture:
Its Impact on the Performance of Bhilai and Bokaro Steel
Plants (1992): This study explored the nature and process
of organization culture and its impact on organizational
performance. The study focuses on Bhilai and Bokaro Steel
Plants and the process of change in Steel Authority of India.
Questionnaire responses from 1,077 employees – both
executives and non-executives, along with personal interviews
and secondary sources of information were used.
- Building Competence for
Role Performance: A Study of Training Needs of Young IPS
Officers (1993): Sponsored by the SVP National Police
Academy, this study explores the role requirements of young
police officers and to identify ways and means to enhance
relevance and usefulness of the training programme by matching
the syllabus and methodology with job requirements.
- Role and Skill Profile
of Young Executives in SAIL (1994): This study focused
on developing strategies for matching the competence of
young executives in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes,
with their role requirements. It had a sample size of 1,087
executives ranging from 3 to 13 years of experience in SAIL.
- Institutional Development
Study of Andhra Pradesh Forest Department (1995): This
World Bank assisted project focuses on building capability
of the forest department to meet existing and emerging challenges.
The study is organized in five inter-related modules –
i) Goals and Strategies, ii) Structure and Systems, iii)
Culture and Values, iv) Human Resource Development and v)
Management of Change.
- Quality of Work Life
(1996): This study of Quality of Work Life in a steel plant
was based on questionnaire responses from 400 employees
of the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited. The study was funded
from the Centre’s own resources. Two papers based
on this study have been published.
- Empowerment (1997):
Based on 162 responses from the executives of a new private
sector bank, this study attempted to explore employee perceptions
about desirable features of employee and to identify the
gap between what should be and what exists. The study was
funded by COD.
- Employee Perceptions
(1997): The study of Employee Perceptions for Oganization
Development at BALCO was completed with financial support
from BALCO. 604 employees participated. Findings of the
study were utilized in the workshops on Strategies for Profitable
Growth.
- Management of Change
(1997): This study of Management of Change in a large organization
covered a decade of change process in Steel Authority of
India Limited from 1985 to 1995. This study was funded by
COD and the report was submitted to Osmania University for
Ph.D. in Business Management.
- Survey of Executives’
Perceptions (1998): 663 executives of Bharat Electronics
Limited from various levels of hierarchy participated in
the survey. The findings of this survey were used as an
input in the top management workshop on Strategic
Vision 2005.
- Transformational Leadership
(2000): This study explores the attributes and styles of
10 Indian transformational leaders with a view to develop
a framework for understanding and developing transformational
leadership for organizations in the context of the emerging
environment. This study was funded by COD. The study report
has been submitted to Osmania University for Ph.D. in Business
Management.
- Sector
Institutional Study for Kerala Forest Department (2001)
The overall objective of this study was to develop
a model of public sector forest department to meet the present
and future needs of involved and interested stakeholders
while contributing to the development of the sector in a
suitable manner as well as conserving bio-diversity. This
study also includes a comprehensive review to improve the
commercial orientation and viability of KFDC.
- Study on Women in Information
Technology (2004): Sponsored by the Ministry of
Human Resource Development, Department of Women and Child
Development, Govt. of India. This study aims to understand
the role and contribution of women in IT sector, including:
current status of women and future possibilities, family-work
life balance, and policy implications to promote more women
in the sector. The study covers 229 women professionals
and 104 male executives, working in 20 large, medium and
small companies in the IT sector in the city of Hyderabad.
- Work Family Balance of Indian Working Women (2005): This small study explored the issues of work family balance with a sample of 15 women in different proffesionals/ occupations.
- Organizational Transformation : A case of MRPL : The study on Organizational Transformation of MRPL, probes into the experiences of MRPL which was transformed from a near sick company to a company that could meet competitive excellence. The study explores to understand the key strategies and processed for managing transformation in MRPL so far and what is the agenda for action in future.
