Dr. B.L. Maheshwari worked as the Director
of the Centre and its principal executive and academic officer
from January 1980 to March 2000. Now he is Chairman of the
Board of Governors and Professor Emeritus at the Centre.
Born in 1935, Dr. Maheshwari had early education
in Rajasthan, where he completed Masters Degrees in both Political
Science and Economics, with first rank in the university in
both the examinations. He was also awarded gold medals for
first ranks in Intermediate Arts examination of the Central
Board of Secondary Education and Sahityaratna of Hindi Sahitya
Sammelan.
Starting his academic career in 1958, he
taught at Alwar and Jaipur. In 1963, he went to the University
of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, on Fulbright Fellowship. After
obtaining M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania,
he returned to Jaipur in 1966. Thereafter, he moved to Hyderabad,
in August 1967, to join the faculty of the Administrative
Staff College of India (ASCI). While at ASCI, for almost 13
years, he developed new programmes on 'Management
by Objectives' and 'Organization Planning
and Design', and also worked as Director of Research,
Director of Management Development, and Editor, ASCI Journal
of Management.

Dr. Maheshwari has been
consultant to a number of government and business organizations,
including Andhra Pradesh Forest Department, Bharat Bijlee,
Bharat Electronics, Blue Star, Crompton Greaves, Export-Import
Bank of India, Governments of Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, Hindustan
Copper, Hindustan Zinc, Hyderabad Industries, Kerala Forest
Department, Madura Coats, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam, Steel Authority
of India, TELCO, UNICEF, Bangkok, Wockhardt, etc.
He has served on a
number of committees including, Member, Syndicate of Kakatiya
University (1976-78); Member, Evaluation Team for Gujarat
Industrial Development Corporation (1973-74); Member, Industrial
Development Bank of India Committee on Training and Development
(1980- 81); Member, Board of Directors, Hindustan Zinc Limited(1981-82);
Chairman of ICSSR Advisory Committee on Second Survey of Research
in Management (1979-84); Member, Board of Directors, Bank
of Madura Ltd.(1985-87); Chairman of the Board of Hitech Print
Systems Limited (1986-93); Member of the Executive Board of
AMDISA (1991-93). Member of Board of Directors of Bharat Aluminium
and ECIL (1998-2001) and Wockhardt (Since 2000). Chairman
of the governing Board for the College of Commerce and Business
Management, Osmania University (2001-2003), Member of the
Board of Governors, Institute of Social and Economic Change
(Since 2004). His name was included in the ninth to twelfth
editions of Marquis Who's Who in the World, Reference
Asia (1992), Biography International (1993), Indo-American
Who's Who (1994) and Indo European Who's Who (1995).
